Background of the Study

Capital budgeting is a critical decision-making process used by businesses to evaluate and select long-term investments that are in line with their strategic objectives and financial goals. It involves the allocation of financial resources to projects that are expected to yield future benefits, such as expansion, new product development, and capacity building (Olaoye, 2023). For businesses in Adamawa State, a region that has witnessed both economic challenges and opportunities, effective capital budgeting practices are essential for business expansion and sustainable growth.

Many businesses in Adamawa State, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), struggle with making sound capital investment decisions due to a lack of adequate financial planning, limited access to funding, and insufficient knowledge of capital budgeting techniques. These challenges can hinder their ability to grow and expand in a competitive market. This study seeks to assess the impact of capital budgeting on business expansion, focusing on how businesses in Adamawa State utilize capital budgeting practices to finance their expansion projects and improve their financial performance.

Statement of the Problem

The effectiveness of capital budgeting is critical to business expansion, but many businesses in Adamawa State lack formal capital budgeting practices, which affects their ability to plan for and execute expansion strategies. Despite the importance of capital budgeting, there is little research on how businesses in this region apply capital budgeting techniques to their expansion efforts. This study aims to bridge the gap by assessing the impact of capital budgeting on the expansion of businesses in Adamawa State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
